Camp Lejeune: Lessons About Protecting Your Health

AUGUST 23, 2022 – Maintaining good physical and mental health is essential for living a happy life. Members of the armed forces are obliged to take extra precautions to protect their health because they are exposed to a variety of potentially hazardous elements during their service. There are numerous things you can do to protect your health while working, driving, or serving your country in the military.

It is essential for those who work in the military to keep a healthy work-life balance and be aware of the ways in which stress can negatively impact mental health. As a military officer, here are some ways to stay healthy.

1. Taking Vaccines

Vaccination is an excellent method of preventing diseases and infections. Military personnel are frequently required to receive certain vaccines when they begin their training and before being deployed. This is done because military personnel travel to places where they interact with a large number of people and are susceptible to contamination. Vaccination protects your health from disease for a long time, allowing you to serve.

2. Using Clean Water

Military personnel at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, became ill after drinking water contaminated with benzene, industrial solvents, and other chemicals. As a result, the PACT Act of the NGK Law was established with the primary goal of providing additional benefits to military personnel exposed to hazardous compounds and allowing survivors of Camp Lejeune water pollution to request monetary assistance. To avoid the recurrence of the water hazard, brush your teeth and drink bottled water. Also, before eating any food, wash your hands with clean soap and water or make use of a hand sanitizer.

3. Avoiding Physical Contact

Military personnel may be dispatched to countries where disease outbreaks are a possibility. For safety reasons, avoid contact with stray animals or animal products. Avoid touching your face if your hands have come into contact with bacteria or fluids. Also, wash your hands regularly if contact is unavoidable.

4. Wearing the Appropriate Uniform

Many of the diseases that kill military personnel are spread by insects. As a result, clothing impregnates are being used in conjunction with military wear to provide adequate protection. Military personnel must also wear toe-covered footwear and a nose mask to complete their uniform. These uniforms keep cold and infected fluids at bay.

5. Maintaining a Clean Environment

Living in a clean environment reduces the chances of contracting a variety of diseases and infections. Exposure to and interaction with pollutants while serving in the military has been linked to the emergence of certain diseases, which can manifest immediately or later. You can avoid exposure to harmful substances in the environment by keeping your living space clean. Take steps to keep your workplace clean in order to protect your health and prevent environmental pollution.

Being a military worker requires a lot of dedication, but the main priority needs to be your health. Your working environment, as well as the people with whom you interact, all have an impact on your health. Being aware of these factors and taking note of the points mentioned above will help you optimize your health status, making you a more effective military worker.
