MAY 25, 2021 – To Commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Memorial Day as a Federal Holiday, Americans are Invited to Discover and Share Stories, Photos and Records of Family Heroes Using #ISaluteFor.
Ancestry®, the leader in family history, is commemorating the 50th anniversary of Memorial Day becoming a federal holiday by honoring stories of America’s fallen heroes with a nationwide virtual tribute. The company invites everyone to honor a loved ones’ legacy by sharing a photo or record of a military hero in their family on Instagram by tagging @Ancestry and using the hashtag #ISaluteFor. To help find stories to share, Ancestry is also offering free access to search military records and personalized stories about your ancestors.
Ancestry partnered with Wounded Warrior Project, The Greatest GENERATIONS Foundation, Combined Arms and Jewish War Veterans to create a “50 Story Salute”, a joint tribute to those who sacrificed their lives to secure our freedom. The tribute on Ancestry social channels is a curated montage of military heroes through time highlighting powerful stories of strength and hope.
“Memorial Day is about honoring those who didn’t make it home,” says Bryan Escobedo, Systems Director, Combined Arms. “We are humbled to be part of the Ancestry ‘50 Story Salute.’ Each story shared will continue the memory of the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.”
To help find family members who served our nation and who lived through these remarkable chapters in history, from May 28-31 Ancestry is opening free access to:
- Search more than 550 million military records on Fold3®, covering military conflicts as early as the Revolutionary War.
- Personalized stories on Ancestry.com using its StoryScout™ tool which quickly sifts through millions of records and can curate stories about your ancestors to help you make meaningful discoveries with no research needed.
“Helping everyone easily discover, craft and connect to their family legacy is core to what we do at Ancestry,” said Deb Liu, President and CEO at Ancestry. “We can become more resilient and bolster hope for the future by learning more about the people who came before us. This Memorial Day, we hope every American will take a moment to connect to the heroes in their personal family trees, honor their sacrifices and make their ancestors’ stories a lasting part of their family legacies.”
Military records can provide incredible details about the heroes in your family and the sacrifices they made. Find the names of those who perished in the fight, who were listed as missing in action or were prisoners of war, the veterans who returned, and the sacrifices of their families in the fight to preserve freedom.
This Memorial Day weekend, visit Ancestry to find those in your family who served our nation and who lived through these remarkable chapters in history. Share your stories with #ISaluteFor.
