The Marine Corps Services offer a variety of enlistment and re-enlistment bonuses to attract new Marine recruits into military specialties that are considered “hard to fill,” as well as to encourage experienced military members in “shortage jobs” to stay in past their first enlistment period.
Reserve Enlistment Bonuses The Marines are offering an enlistment bonus of $5,000 for individuals who enlist in the Marine Corps Reserves in specified Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) during 2010 (Jan. 1, 2010 through Sept. 30, 2010).
Additionally, the Marine Corps Reserves is offering extra educational money to certain applicants who enlist in the Marine Corps Reserves through the Montgomery GI Bill Kicker.
This incentive is offered to all individuals who enlist in the Marine Corps Reserves under the 6 x 2 program, in select MOS’s.

Ship to Basic Training between December and May — $3,000
Ship to Basic Training between June and November– $2,000
Term of Service Required:5 years
Test Scores Required: AFQT 50
Notes
- No waivers given for monetary gain.
- Applicants who use drugs while in the DEP will lose their program (not waiverable).
- No felony convictions.
- No drug or moral waiver that is above the Recruiting Station Level.
- No serious offenses to include those waived at the Recruiting Station Level.
- Tier I (High School Diploma or at least 15 college credits)
- Must meet all the requirements of Aviation Electronics Enlistment Option.
The Marine Corps offers monetary bonuses for enlisted Marines who agree to re-enlist in “shortage” MOSs (jobs).
Enlistment bonuses are taxable bonuses that are given to new recruits as an incentive to join a reserve component and agree to stay in the Selected Reserve for six years. They also must agree to remain in the Inactive Reserve for two more years ” a total obligation of at least eight years. To qualify, they must:
- Have no prior service in any component of the armed forces.
- Have qualified on the Armed Forces Qualification Test in Score Category I, II or III.
- Be a high school graduate or have completed an equivalency examination.
- Not be enlisting to qualify for a civilian job for which membership in a reserve component is a condition of employment, such as a National Guard technician.
- Not be enlisting for an active-duty position.
- Be enlisting as a member of a unit and/or in a military career field designated for bonuses.
The amount of bonus depends on the “Multiplier” assigned to the MOS, the individual’s rank, the member’s time in service, and the number of years the individual re-enlists for.
- Zone A — Marines who have between 17 months and six years of service at the time of re-enlistment
- Zone B — Marines who have between 6 and 10 years of service at the time of re-enlistment
- Zone C — Marines who have between 10 and 14 years of service at the time of re-enlistment
Note: No payments of enlistment bonuses are made until the reservist has completed initial active duty for training, career field qualification or training, and has been determined deployable.
