In addition to a rewarding career and competitive salary, you are eligible to receive insurance, as well as food and housing allowances. Here are just some of the benefits of being a Guard member.
Pay
Basic Pay
The amount depends on the rank and amount of time in service. You can see your rank and amount of time in service listed in your LES (Leave and Earnings Statement) that comes with each month’s pay. In addition to Basic Pay, Guard members on Active Duty for Training receive a Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS) for food and a Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) for lodging, if those are not already provided. To obtain current pay rates you may go to the Defense Finance and Accounting Service website for military pay.
Monthly Pay Check (Drill Pay) is earned when you attend the UTA (Unit Training Assembly). You will receive pay for 4 drill periods per UTA weekend. Amount received per each drill period is based on rank and years in service.
Annual Training Pay is earned for each day of annual training. Yearly annual training is usually for 15 days, but can vary. Rate of daily pay is determined by rank and years of service.
When on Annual Training officers and enlisted members also receive additional pay for Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS), and Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). These amounts will differ for each individual depending on several variables.
Additional Pay
Pay may also include additional pay for dangerous, highly skilled, or undesirable assignments. For example:
- Flight Pay is special monthly pay to pilots, navigators, officer crewmembers, weapons officers and flight surgeons.
- Hazardous Duty Pay is a special monthly pay for certain hazardous assignments including demolitions work, work involving contact with toxic fuels or pesticides, and parachuting.
