In addition to a rewarding career and competitive salary, you are eligible to receive insurance, as well as food and housing allowances. Here are just some of the benefits of being a Guard member.
National Guard Retirement
Guard members are eligible for retirement once they reach 60 year of age and complete 20 years of certifiable service. Each day of active service can count toward your retirement. Guard members earn one retirement point for each day of active service, one for each day of full-time service while on active duty for training, and one point for each drill. Other points may be earned through extra training or instruction. Active duty guard (AGR) members are eligible for retirement after completing 20 years of active military duty. For additional information pertaining to retirement benefits and eligibility go to the Retirement site as needed. All retirees and their eligible dependents are required to have a current Uniformed Services Identification Card and be enrolled in the DEERS for medical and other benefits.
