Enlisted
Enlisted Soldiers serve as the main workforce. They hold positions in office, transportation, mechanical, human service and combat jobs and make up about 84 percent of service personnel.
Officers
Officers typically work in managerial, professional and technical positions including; doctors, nurses, lawyers, engineers, pilots, etc. They make up about 16 percent of service personnel.

- Army, National Guard and Marine Corps jobs are referred to as Military Occupations Specialties or and MOSs,
- Navy and Coast Guard jobs are called ratings
