SEPTEMBER 5, 2023 – The 446th Movement Control Battalion, 7th Mission Support Command, arrived at Rhine Ordnance Barracks Sunday, August 20, 2023, after completing a nine-month mobilization.
Brig. Gen. Karen Monday – Gresham, Commanding General of the 7th MSC and unit leadership received the 446th, applauding them for their service in support of U.S. Army Europe and Africa.
The unit, initially identified for a rotation in support of Atlantic Resolve, was reassigned to Operation Secure, Deter and Reinforce, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine and lead all movement control operations for the 4th Infantry Division’s sustainment brigade. Lt. Col. Neil McGough, Commander of the 446th praised his team for their hard work and dedication to the mission.
“We have a unique mission set as part of the strategic theater reserve,” he said. “We provided liaison support to the Polish and Romanian National Movement Centers, mission command over movement control, as well as in-transit visibility in support of combat, contingency, and training operations.”
Greater than two-thirds of the sustainment resources and capabilities for the total Army reside in the Army Reserve, making the 7th MSC’s presence, involvement, and readiness essential to the success of missions throughout Europe.
“We are the first (Army Reserve) organization to deploy entirely intra-theater,” said McGough. “We’re stationed here. We completed mobilization requirements here, and then we moved into a forward position in support of operations here in Europe as well.”
The unit is the first U.S. Army Reserve unit in Europe to mobilize in more than a decade, and the first to complete their mobilization requirements in theater. The unit will reunite with their families and be recognized for their efforts during a formal ceremony, following the completion of their demobilization requirements.
The 7th MSC is the only forward-headquartered U.S. Army Reserve command in Europe and provides ready, capable, units of action in support of U.S. Army Europe and Africa missions throughout the theater.
