AUGUST 4, 2022 – Every year, National Coast Guard Day is celebrated on August 4 — a celebration of the day that the Coast Guard was founded in 1790. This year, to mark the service’s 232nd anniversary, we’d like to call attention to all that the U.S. Coast Guard does for our nation and our communities, with incredible stories of Coast Guard heroism and local impact.
The first story is about members of Air Station Kodiak, who pulled off a near-impossible helicopter rescue off the coast of Alaska in some of the worst maritime conditions possible. The Coast Guard Foundation is hosting an event to honor these service members and show appreciation for their bravery.
Second is the story about a honoring the legacy of a Coast Guard member long-committed to the community of Cape Cod, through the establishment and presentation of the inaugural Captain Richard O. Buttrick Scholarship. It was presented to Jessie Dlabaj, a Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School 2022 graduate and Coast Guard dependent, for the 2022-2023 school year.
For more information on both of these stories, keep reading. Thank you for your continued support of the Coast Guard Foundation and, through them, the brave service members of the United States Coast Guard.
