LARKSPUR, Calif., (PRNewswire) — More than one hundred of the nation’s largest military and veterans charities, such as the Navy Seal Foundation and the Ranger Memorial Foundation, have banded together to produce a unified online appeal that will debut October 22. A unified appeal by these charities is unprecedented.
Visitors to the website www.UnitedHeroes.org will be able to make one gift to be shared among all the charities listed or select one or more specific charities from the group to receive donations. The website will accept credit card gifts only. Gifts may be one-time or recurring.
The idea for a unified fund drive came about when the United Way in Washington, DC, reversed its former policy that permitted national military and veterans charities providing services in the DC area to apply to be listed in United Way’s campaign materials. In response, Independent Charities of America organized a “virtual united way” for these charities and expanded the fund drive’s inclusion to military and veterans groups nationwide.
The participating charities are already certified by the U.S. Government to participate in the annual fall charitable fund drive conducted by military personnel and Federal employees. The United Heroes fund drive is intended to reach civilian, non-Federal givers.
