The Army Special Operations units perform the military operations that are outside the normal capabilities of conventional forces. Conventional forces consist of masses of tanks, masses of men, heavy equipment and artillery while special operations forces go after those things that larger organizations are incapable of handling because of their inflexibility and inability to innovate. Special operations also are concerned with local nationals in various countries. Army Special Forces teams are dedicated to certain and specific regions of the world.
Special Forces – Green Beret

Army Rangers
The 75th Ranger Regiment is a flexible, highly trained and rapidly deployable light infantry force. It has the specialized skills that enable it to be employed against a variety of conventional and Special Operations targets.
Candidates must pass a stringent orientation course before being selected into Ranger School and becoming an Army Ranger. During training, soldiers will face physical and mental challenges that will build a foundation for membership in to one of the Army’s elite combat units.
Delta Force
The 1st Combat Applications Group (1st CAG) is commonly known as Delta Force. It is one of the United States’ secretive Tier One counter-terrorism and Special Mission Units (SMUs), they are the United States’ primary counter-terrorism unit.
Delta Force’s main tasks include counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency, and national intervention operations, although it is an extremely versatile group capable of assuming many covert missions, including, but not limited to, rescuing hostages and raids.
Night Stalkers
The 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) is a special operations unit of the United States Army that provides helicopter aviation support for general purpose forces and Special Operations Forces. Its missions have included attack, assault, and reconnaissance, and are usually conducted at night, at high speeds, low altitudes, and on short notice. The 160th SOAR is headquartered at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Their motto is Night Stalkers Don’t Quit..
Army Law (JAG Corps)
The Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps is a wide ranging practice that includes military law, criminal prosecution, international law and legal assistance in the U.S. and abroad. Being a part of the JAG Corps offers the unique opportunity of serving one’s country as an Officer while quickly developing professional skills. JAG Corps Attorneys can choose to serve either full-time in Active Duty, or part-time in the Army Reserves.
